That’s exactly where we found ourselves last weekend, trekking through the forgotten marble quarries of Epirus. The hike began innocently enough—just a group of us, backpacks loaded with essentials (read: snacks and sarcasm), setting off into the wild. But soon, the terrain turned into something straight out of a Mad Max movie: towering slabs of white stone, jagged cliffs, and a rocky wasteland that made us question whether we were still in Greece or had somehow wandered onto the set of Interstellar.
Every step crunched beneath our boots as we navigated this marble graveyard, dodging precariously balanced boulders and wondering if ancient Greek sculptors had simply ghosted the place mid-shift. The eerie silence only added to the drama—no birds, no rustling leaves, just the occasional clunk of a dislodged rock and the distant hum of someone’s stomach growling (we suspect it was Giorgos).

After hours of clambering over wild, unforgiving terrain—where the only signs of life were stubborn little plants proving they had serious survival skills—we made our way back to the grand finale: outdoor cinema night, quarry edition.
Picture this: A massive, towering rock wall as our movie screen. A sky so clear you could count every star. A crackling fire surrounded by weary but victorious hikers. And in the middle of it all? A glorious feast of grilled souvlaki, cold beers, and enough good vibes to make even the grumpiest mountain goat smile.

As the film played (something appropriately adventurous, of course), we leaned back on our makeshift seats—rocks, backpacks, each other—and let the magic of the night sink in. The flickering flames, the sound of clinking bottles, the occasional burst of laughter… it was the kind of evening that reminds you why adventures aren’t just about the journey, but also about the stories you take home.
And let’s be honest, this story is way cooler than just another “we went for a hike” post.
